‘Deep Shoal of Blue Tangs in ghost coral’

£2,495.00

The powder blue Tang is a coral reef dwelling surgeon fish, as an important member of the coral ecosystem. The Tangs eat algae that forms on the coral, that if not removed would eventually smother the exoskeletons.

The beautiful coral reefs are a careful balance of fish, algae and coral, all work together to create beautiful, vibrant underwater metropolises.

Unfortunately about half of the world’s coral reefs have already disappeared due to climate change, overfishing and pollution.

My Tangs are reverse painted onto two panels of glass in a pallet of blues and turquoise then gilded in silver leaf with 24kt goldleaf highlights on their individual fishes dorsal fin and tail. The ghost coral is acid etched into the glass panel deepening the layers and depth perception of the piece.

Each of Danni’s pieces are original, unique and produced by Danni from start finish here in her studio. Each piece is inked, painted and gilded onto the reverse of toughened glass. After completion the piece is flipped over to reveal the artwork through the glass

This piece comprises of two layers of reverse painted and gilded glass which are framed in a bespoke box frame with 20mm slips between the layers of glass and a white backboard, the shoals create shadows that you can see on the backboard behind the fish giving the whole piece an almost 3D quality. These shadows can move and dance across the backboard when the piece is in natural light, like in a lovely bright room , but will look equally as good under spots or in any well lit space. Once evening comes the these pieces take on a whole new aspect as the metallic leaf radiates its own luminescence.
