Eclipse of Tiger Moths

I've always been drawn to moths…

Unlike butterflies, whose transformation is often associated with beauty and celebration, moths feel more mysterious. They belong to the twilight hours. They navigate by moonlight. They find their way through darkness.

In this piece, my reverse painted and copper gilded Tiger Moths  move around a 24kt goldleaf  gilded moon.

As I worked on the piece, I found myself thinking about periods of change we all navigate, not the dramatic moments, but the quieter transitions that happen beneath the surface. The seasons of uncertainty where we don't yet know what we're becoming.

Moths trust their instinct, navigating by following a light they cannot fully understand. Perhaps many of us do the same.

For me, this work is about faith in the process of transformation. About continuing forward when clarity hasn't arrived. About recognising that darkness is not the opposite of growth, but often the place where growth begins.

The moon remains constant, reflecting light into the night. The moths continue their journey towards it.

Perhaps that's all any of us are doing.
