'Mako Shark with shoal of Mackerel’

'Mako Shark with shoal of Mackerel’
One of the fastest fish in the Ocean.
And the fastest shark…. Sleek, agile and cunning. Makos are considered extremely intelligent and able to critically reason, as well as having impressive social skills.
“Sadly, the shortfin mako has been targeted by sport and commercial fishers to a dangerously high level. Between finning and bycatch driftnet deaths, mako sharks moved from being “vulnerable” to “endangered.” This is an international decision that will go a long way towards reversing the decline in the numbers of makos and rebuilding the population. Despite the work of mako rookeries, the damage to the mako population is alarming.” - Tiffany Winn
Each of Danni’s pieces are original, unique and produced by Danni from start finish here in her studio. Each piece is inked, painted and gilded onto the reverse of toughened glass. After completion the piece is flipped over to reveal the artwork through the glass
This piece comprises of two layers of reverse painted and gilded glass which are framed in a bespoke box frame with 20mm slips between the layers of glass and white backboard, the shark and Mackerel create shadows that you can see on the backboard behind the fish, giving the whole piece an almost 3D quality. These shadows can move and dance across the backboard when the piece is in natural light, like in a lovely bright room , but will look equally as good under spots or in any well lit space. Once evening comes the these pieces take on a whole new aspect as the metallic leaf radiates its own luminescence. .
